Marble Glazed Chocolate Donuts

Marble Glazed Chocolate Donuts

I love making donuts but for some reason if I’m craving a sweet treat I usually end up making cookies. This week however, a baked chocolate donut was all I wanted! I had all sorts of plans for the topping and glaze ranging from sprinkles to ganache, but I decided to try my hand at this beautiful marbling effect. These marble glazed chocolate donuts are enjoyable to look at and eat!

Creating this effect is pretty straight forward and even better, the less precise you are, the cooler it looks. You make three colors of glaze: white, pink, and red.

It is important to use the pink glaze as the base so that as the white and red inevitably mix in during the dipping process, it just turns into more pink. You gently drizzle/splatter the white and red into the bowl so that those colors sit on the surface. Then dunk your donut in, give your wrist a slight twist as you pull it out so as to coat the whole thing, and let drip for a second before letting set on a cooling rack.

It can take a little practice, but the marble effect is so beautiful and each donut should end up looking unique, so have fun with it! Also, these donuts are light and fluffy, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll find it hard to resist eating just one…

Instructions
Chocolate Donuts
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar. Then add in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  3. In a medium bowl, sift all of the dry ingredients together. Then, alternating, add the dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture. The donut batter should be thick and smooth.
  4. Fill a piping bag or large ziploc with the batter. Pipe rings into the donut pan filling each spot about 2/3 of the way full. Bake for 12 minutes. Let cool for a minute in pan and gently remove. Let cool completely.
Marble Glaze
  1. Make three glazes in three bowls. In each bowl, mix 1/2 Cup powdered sugar with 1 Tbsp. of milk. Leave one white. Add a very small amount of red coloring to the second to achieve a light pink. Add red coloring to the third to make a red.
  2. Using a fork, drizzle the white and red dyes on the top of the pink glaze (see above). Dunk a fully cooled donut into the dye, turning slightly while pulling it out. Place on cooling rack and let set. Repeat process re-drizzling white and red glaze in the pink glaze bowl every 2-3 donuts.
